Hello Everyone!
Welcome to week 6 of the 2015 Bible Art Journaling Challenge!
This week I dove in to a very fun and completely different type of creativity than previous weeks. I think you’re going to love it! If you’ve felt intimidated by previous weeks or afraid to start, this is your week!
Last week we covered John 3:16, talking about how God loved us first. About His love for us. This week, I wanted to move on to what our love for each other is defined as in the Bible. What IS love and how DO we do this thing while on a life journey that clearly does not start with perfection? How do we love each other well and not expect more out of ourselves than our very best in whatever season we find ourselves? This week’s scripture is 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a which says (in my NASB translation),
“4 Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails…“
As I mentioned in my video, it can be so easy to beat ourselves up when we look at this scripture. As humans, we can judge ourselves with such intensity that our loving Father God must look on with sadness! He LOVES us deeply. He is proud of us like any loving father is of their kids. We get this great honor to model our love for each other, after God’s love and He is the ultimate example. He does not expect us to be perfect or get it right the first time. When a child rides a bike, they L-E-A-R-N to ride through practice. Practice, practice, practice. So our journey of love looks. We apply these beautiful traits of love toward those around us and sometimes we “fall off the bike”. Our job is to get back on the bike and try again. And again. And again. Until we have perfected the love. How is it even possible to be so perfect? We are made perfect in Him. Without God, it is impossible to do this thing called love. Have you ever tried to bear all things or not take a wrong suffered into account with someone you “love”? We’re all on a journey. Let us find joy in the process and hope in our Savior King Jesus.
Let’s look at this creative Bible Art Journaling Challenge as a great time to sow in to the perfecting of our love for those around us. To meditate on what God’s Word says, let it wash over our souls and renew our minds. And then, let us forgive ourselves so we can start fresh when we need to. Every day should be new. It’s our choice if we bring yesterday’s trouble into today. But why would we do a silly thing like that if we can stand up, jump around and let all the dust of yesterday drop on to the floor for an extra dose of jumping on. Go on… jump on it. Then have a private laugh that yesterday doesn’t have anything on your future and get started loving deeper than ever.

How about the creative technique I showed you this week? It is so fun! I realize you may not be able to go buy everything and try it right away but I knew you might enjoy learning how to do this if you haven’t before! Love is beautiful when it hits the Light. Just like my foiling on paper! Take a look through the scriptures and take this opportunity to divert away from what I am teaching if you like and try some creative technique you adore, right on your Bible page to help seal in your heart what love is. This is your creative journey. Enjoy learning from me and even more so, enjoy your creative process with God. Who cares if it is perfect! I’ve got news for you. God will be SO proud to put YOUR art on His fridge! 🙂

I love your LOVE page. I have never used distress inks before, but now I think that I will give them a try. Just beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing your challenge.
I love the process you used here. I have not used the distress inks or gilding before. I may try them in the future but I have so many art medias that I probably won’t invest in them at this time but it is wonderful to see how they are used. Still loving this challenge.

There is a product that is called an anti static bag that you get and rub over any surface before you emboss that will help to prevent your powders from sticking where you do not want it. That would be helpful to use over your prepared pages with the gel medium. Just a tip I know …
I found your blog by “accident” and fell in love with this idea. But, I am sure that I am not the only one who knows absolutely nothing about art and art supplies. I have all the things, I think, to get started, but am a little confused on the page preparation. Could you please explain if I am suppose to use one or both of the products to prepare the pages. I noticed the supply list used the wording “then” between Liquitex Matte Gel Medium, and then Liquitex clear gesso. Are both items suppose to be use to prep the pages?

Isn’t it funny how we view our own work?? I LOVED this. I was drawn to it straight away. I loved the almost bronzed look of the writing and the colours of ink you used. So often we look at what we’ve done and it doesn’t look right, lol, and sometimes it’s not,( but often it’s just perfection talking) then others look at the same thing and are like, Wow!! that’s awesome! Be encouraged! Your work is so inspiring.
And I just love it now I’ve taken time away from it. 🙂
